NEXT MEETING

DATE:              5th Saturday, August 30, 2008

TIME:               2:30 p.m.  Time change

PLACE:           Community Room, Campbell Library, 77 N. Harrison, Campbell, CA

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Our next meeting will be held on the fifth Saturday rather than the fourth Saturday.  That will be August 30th  2008.  Don’t forget the meeting will be at 2:30.

This is a busy month isn’t it.  I hope all of you have prepared your paintings for the Rose Shenson Exhibit.  Submit your entries to the Rose Shenson Gallery between 12:00 noon and 2:00PM, then by 2:30 we should all be gathered at the Library for our meeting.  Don’t forget the artist of the month competition as well.

Please mark your calendars for some upcoming changes in our meeting schedules:

September 27th Instead of the usual meeting at 1:00PM , we have the room from 2:30 to 5:30

October 25th.  Back on schedule with the usual 1:00 to 4:00PM meeting.

Congratulations are in order for Blue Ribbon Winner in July, Pat Hunziker,  for “3 Kids at the Fountain” and the winners of the artist of the month competition:

First Place … Slava Shabrov with his photo of Sand Harbor Pine

Second Place … Egnalya Aznaran with her portrait of Vanessa

Third Place …Janice Santos with her painting of Des Moines River

Janice Santos with her painting, Des Moines River, won the postcard contest to announce the September Rose Shenson Show.

Thanks to Bud Hunziker who recommended at the July meeting that we not use eye hooks or screws but rather flat D hooks on our paintings so as not to poke a hole in a painting if several are stacked together.  While this is not a requirement for the Rose Shenson show, please keep it in mind as you frame any future paintings.

Congratulations to Karen Adamski, whose paintings are now being sold at Lauren’s Garden, 6883 N. Lake Blvd., Tahoe Vista, CA  96148, (530) 546-3834.

FUTURE MEETINGS

Note:  We will have a white-elephant silent auction at our October meeting (in addition to our regular meeting & demonstrator) to raise money for the guild.  So start putting aside those things you can donate to the auction.  Doesn’t have to be art related but in good condition.  No used clothing; what doesn’t sell, you take back home so bring things that will sell!

OUR NEXT PROGRAM(S)

Sandra Jones is equally accomplished in the media of pastel, charcoal, and airbrush, and is captivated by the human form.  The August demonstration will be a session in figurative realism featuring a high contrast, black and white charcoal on toned paper. Meticulously rendered, classical representation of the female form.  www.artsopolis.com/profile/detail/948 and www.stratfordstudio.com

September:  Teresa Hsu  'Presents watercolor technique favoring soft values and subtle shadowing for dramatic composition. Works capture an immediate quality and sense of the natural world.' www.mesart.com  & www.svos.org (can use artist Search, by name for a profile)

October 25:  Peggy A. Brennan 'Working in rich oils that capture the spirit of the old masters, the artist presents a fresh look at the time-honored genre of still life! Focus is on the individual vibrancy of subject matter. A sensory quality pervades each image, as nature's fruits, time-worn vessels are infused with properties of light, lustre, texture and color.'  www.peggyabrennan.com

LAST MONTH’S PROGRAM

Ed Lucey demonstrated the ‘alla prima’ technique in Windsor & Newton water soluable oils, using a water pond subject.  He uses no medium but water and Princeton synthetic brushes in sizes 16 to 8  (6300 series).  In order to stay loose, he stated that it’s best to stay with the largest brush you can, for the longest time that you can.  And check your work looking back over your shoulder with a mirror, especially if perspective is an important part of your subject. www.geocities.com/edlucey

LET’S SAVE MONEY

If you are willing to have the newsletter sent to you by email instead of in the mail, please email me at jsantos@jps.net.  I will send a test newsletter to you to be certain you can read it.  Each newsletter we mail costs the guild a minimum of 57 cents; let’s save some money if we can!
