Patricia Watkins- Artist, Writer, Vocalist, and Editor

Patricia is a graduate of San Mateo High (1965), College of San Mateo, DeAnza College, and San Jose State University (2004). She is a local artist specializing in watercolor and graphics (crayons,conte, pencil, ink) with a scrumptious attitude for exploring media and using nontraditional tools in a new, adventurous way. She is a member of Campbell and Cambrian Art Guilds and prior to the nineties, Los Gatos Art Association as well. Her professors include Larry Miller, Leroy Parker, and Brian Taylor.

The San Mateo Times published a winning drawing which launched her art career at the age of ten. In the fifties freshly laundered dress shirts were wrapped around a piece of cardboard; this cardboard became the paper on which Patty drew and painted portraits of the neighborhood children.

The art awards are numerous from various contests and exhibits throughout the South Bay over the past decades. Donations of her talents to support local charities, senior citizen facilities, and PBS stations by means of her script writing, framed art, and vocals continues to feed her passion for the creative process.

Her art, stories, and poems have been published in several college magazines, a SJSU cd, and creative writing class books. Her writings may be viewed in the San Mateo Public Library and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, San Jose, California. Her most recent award is from the Pioneers of Santa Clara County - an essay entitled, Staying Young At Heart-A San Jose History. It opened a new category for memoirs in their yearly essay contest.
